Jetpack 4.4 is now available and brings several enhancements, bug fixes, and some new features for both free and subscription users.

New features of Jetpack 4.4

For Jetpack Professional subscription users there is a specific feature: Automatic, responsible for the development of the plugin, calls it "SEO Tools" and pretend to be helpful in helping to optimize websites that use Jetpack 4.4.

Jetpack 4.4 SEO Tools

The truth is that the name "SEO Tools" is quite overstating... It will allow a very basic optimization for your site. This feature is only available in WordPress.com Business Plan and Jetpack Professional Plan for self-hosted site. Remember that self-hosted means that you have a WP installation in your own hosting.

Meta Description of the home page

Meta descriptions are an overview of the content of your site. Search engines sometimes use this information to determine the relevancy of the site for specific searches. This meta description setting applies only to the home page of your site.

Meta Description for the Homepage

We recommend not to go beyond a strict limit of 156 characters including the endpoint.

Meta Post Meta Description

Generally, Googlebot will collect the content of the publication and will be used as a description that is displayed in search results (snippets). With the tools of SEO you can customize the meta description to attract the reader's look and potentially increase the ranking in SERPs of the publication. Of course this cannot be seen as a stand-alone factor.

Custom Title Formats

To help improve the ranking of a page, you can customize how the content titles of the site appear. You can rearrange elements such as "Site Name" and "Slogan", and also add custom separators between the elements.

Sidebar Widgets

Jetpack 4.4 brings 2 new widgets to enrich your WordPress project:

Automatic translation with Google Translate

"My Community"

Where you can see who has recently interacted with your site.

Another perk of this release:

Pinterest Embedding Bracket

Now you can easily insert your Pinterest profile, individual boards or pins by simply pasting the links in any post or page.

Embed from Pinterest

If your plans and strategy go through Pinterest or you simply like it, you can easily insert your Pinterest profile, Pinterest boards or individual pins by simply pasting the links in any post or page. At the moment we have not had a chance to try embedding Pinterest into custom input types.

Now we explain how to embed from Pinterest, although a little later you can also find out how to add the Pinterest share buttons (including the floating button "Pin It" to make image pins automatically) and how to verify your web with Pinterest.

To Pinterest, create or edit a publication or page.
Then paste the link to your Pinterest profile, or a specific board or pin, for example:

  • Profile: https://es.pinterest.com/seofreelance/
  • Board: https://es.pinterest.com/seofreelance/barcelona/
  • Pin: https://es.pinterest.com/pin/378302437420155038/

Make sure it is not an active hyperlink, ie you can read the URL but you really do not go anywhere by clicking on it, since it would not be an embedded but a link to your Pinterest material. If it is an active link, select it and use the hyperlink button to convert the active link into a URL text. This will happen if you paste the URLs on the visual editor, if you do it in text view the pasted URL will not become active link. This is how it should be to make it work.

Note: Pinterest incorporations will not be shown if your blog is marked Private.

Code, speed and infrastructure improvements

Progress has been made in one of the biggest problems facing Jetpack users: changes to the site's domain name. Jetpack 4.4 makes major improvements to alleviate some of those difficulties with the new safe mode function. This will help users who work a lot with development sites and even users who simply want to change the domain of their site.

Photon is now using HTTPS by default. This is of special interest if you use HTTPS.
